Oakville & Mississauga Christmas Tree Pick-up Program

January 7, 2010

With the New Year well underway, ’tis the season to un-deck the halls and un-trim the tree.

My wife and I decided to go the artificial route after we got married, but for many of you the Holidays include picking out a real fresh-cut Christmas tree.

Enjoy the smell of the holidays from your tree this week, because starting the week of January 11, 2010 both Oakville and Mississauga will begin their Christmas tree pickup during your regular waste pick-up schedule.

For Oakville, Halton Region will be picking up your Christmas trees for a two-week period beginning Jan. 11th 2010, while Mississauga and Peel Region including Brampton will be just the week of January 11th.

What you need to do:

  • Take off all your decorations (I know this seems obvious, but you’d be surprised!);
  • Make sure your tree stand is off the tree;
  • Put your tree at the curb for your regular pick-up day;
  • Make sure your tree isn’t covered in snow.

In most regions, the collected Christmas trees are taken to the landfill sites where they are mulched for future uses.
