Oakville & Mississauga Real Estate News: Carbon Monoxide Safety In Your Home

February 11, 2009

Whether you have children, pets or live on your own, safety in your home should always be a top concern for you and your family.

Rising reports of deaths and near-tragedies caused by carbon monoxide poisoning has prompted the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs and the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Public Safety Council to colaborate with alarm manufacturer Kidde Canada in order to help better protect families: The group’s online pamphlet, Your Guide to Help Protect Your Family From Carbon Monoxide Tragedy, identifies the causes of carbon monoxide gas, dubbed the “silent killer” since it is colourless, odourless and tasteless. “Have a licensed professional inspect your fuel-burning heating and cooking systems each year,” says Kidde safety expert Carol Heller and “be sure all exterior vents are cleared of snow.” The pamphlet also recommends the number of CO alarms a home requires and more. The free download is at SafeAtHome.ca., an informative site that’s full of facts and myths every homeowner should be aware of.
